PickPredict is an online contest system for fans of professional and collegiate competitive sports
(football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, golf, tennis, motor sports, etc.)
which in advance of an event
(game, match, race, etc.)
or
series of events
(season, tournament, playoff, series, etc.)
challenges fans to PICK the winner of the event or events
and
to PREDICT some element(s) of the outcome
(final score, half time score, scoring difference, time difference, round of elimination from playoffs, etc.)
as specified in the contest's rules
and then
optionally
(or mandatorily if the rules of a contest require it)
publish their pick(s) and prediction(s) on Twitter.
PickPredict contests can be operated on a local, national, or international scope.
Multiple contests can be run for any individual event or series of events, each with its own look and feel, rules, prizes, participants, and winners.
Typically a PickPredict contest is linked-to from a Web page, Facebook page, or Twitter account.
A given PickPredict contest can be linked-to from any number of Web locations.
The Twitter Component of PickPredicts Contests:
Every time a sports fan enters a PickPredict contest they are offered the opportunity to tweet their pick and prediction.
It's the natural thing to do in this era of social media.
If you think you know who is going to win, why not proclaim it to the world (wide web)?
Tweeting a PickPredict contest entry is always optional, never required.
To encourage tweeting we suggest offering a bonus prize for a contest winner who tweeted their entry.
The actual process of tweeting a PickPredict contest entry is quick and easy.
The PickPredict contest system automatically drafts a custom tweet for each contest entry that includes a Twitter username.
The draft tweet includes appropriate hashtags and a link.
This tweet is then offered to the contestant so he or she can edit it, or not (according to the contest's rules), then post it to their Twitter timeline, or not.
Posting the tweet to Twitter requires only 2 mouse clicks (presuming the contestant is signed into Twitter).
Twitter followers of a PickPredict contestant who has tweeted an entry then see the tweeted pick and prediction and the link.
Clicking on the link brings the follower to the contest form.
Completing entry into the contest delivers the follower to the Web page from which the original twitterer entered the contest.

Typically the winner of a contest is the first (by date and time) entry to correctly
PICK the actual winner and accurately PREDICT the required scoring element(s) of the sporting event involved.
If no entry makes
the exact pick and prediction of the event's actual outcome,
the winner is determined by a process specified in the rules of the contest.
PickPredict contests are hosted on the PickPredict servers.
They are "linked to" from any website willing and able to display their link.
A link may be promoted in a Tweet, on a Facebook page or in an email.
